Spanakopita

Spanakopita
It is a crispy and flavorful Greek savory pie, filled with spinach, feta, and Mediterranean herbs. Wrapped in thin layers of golden phyllo dough, it is perfect as an appetizer or a main dish. Its balance between the creaminess of the filling and the crunchiness of the crust makes it irresistible

Directions

It takes 8 steps in 1 h 10 min
1 Spanakopita - step 1
Place a large pot with plenty of water on the stove, and once it reaches a boil, cook the spinach for a few minutes
2 Spanakopita - step 2
Once cooked, immerse them in a bowl full of cold water, then squeeze them to remove all excess water and chop them with a knife
3 Spanakopita - step 3
Peel and finely slice the onion and garlic, then sauté them in a pan with a drizzle of olive oil over low heat
4 Spanakopita - step 4
Place the spinach, eggs, crumbled feta, chopped parsley, and salt in a bowl and mix until everything is perfectly combined
5 Spanakopita - step 5
Grease a not-too-large rectangular baking dish, and place 5 sheets of phyllo dough on the bottom, brushing each sheet with oil after placing it in the dish
6 Spanakopita - step 6
Add the filling, leveling it as much as possible with the help of a spoon
7 Spanakopita - step 7
Cover the dish with another 5 sheets of phyllo dough, cut to size, brushing the surface of each sheet after placing it
Tip: Prick the surface with a sharp knife to prevent it from puffing up during baking
8 Spanakopita - step 8
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40–45 minutes in a static oven or until the surface of the spanakopita is perfectly golden

Cost

Spanakopita is an affordable recipe because all the ingredients are accessible and inexpensive. It can be even more budget-friendly by using frozen spinach and locally produced feta. Ideal for preparing a delicious meal without spending too much

Health

Thanks to the spinach, it is rich in fiber, vitamins, and iron, while the feta provides protein and calcium. Phyllo dough is lighter than puff pastry, making it a lower-calorie choice. Perfect for a balanced diet without sacrificing taste
